Over the last years, methicillin-resistant staphylococci in animals, particularly methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (MRSP), have attracted considerable attention from the scientific community and human and animal health professionals, as well as relevant stakeholders involved in livestock production and medicine manufacture. This Conference brings together representatives from the public health, medical and veterinary sectors, and scientists investigating epidemiology, diagnostic testing, genomics, virulence, host-specificity, evolution, prevention, treatment and control of MRSA and MRSP in animals. The scope of the Conference is to share cutting-edge research and promote interdisciplinary and intersectorial collaboration in this field through a One Health approach.

The main goal is to integrate complementary disciplines and sectors to develop new research ideas and control strategies that will mitigate the spread of methicillin-resistant staphylococci in the animal population and reduce the risk of zoonotic transmission to the human population.
